Maurice Collard is an experienced, accomplished, and well-respected criminal defence lawyer who has successfully defended some of Central Alberta's most high-profile cases. He is a founding member and owner of Advocate Law. He began his career as a criminal defence lawyer in Red Deer and then moved to the Crown Prosecutor’s Office as the youngest prosecutor in Central Alberta. He became the longest-serving active Crown Prosecutor in Central Alberta.
Maurice has run countless trials in the Provincial Court and Court of Queen’s Bench, and argued successfully before the Court of Appeal of Alberta. Maurice continues to lecture at numerous law enforcement seminars and has been an instructor for the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service and for prosecutors across the country.
Maurice has successfully run trials for murder (with and without a jury), including triple first-degree murder, drunk driving causing death, aggravated assault and sexual assault, home invasions, drive-by shootings, multi-kilogram drug trafficking, as well as countless trials for sexual assault, domestic violence, and drunk driving. He also has experience with police undercover operations, wiretaps, and search warrants. Maurice has been the Principal and mentor to many young and successful criminal defence lawyers in his role as owner of the largest criminal defence firm in Central Alberta's history.
