Prior to becoming a defence lawyer, Maurice spent many years as a Crown prosecutor, prosecuting all types of crimes, including triple first-degree murder and contract killing.
Maurice has run countless trials in the Court of Justice and the Court of King’s Bench and has argued successfully before the Court of Appeal of Alberta many times. Maurice continues to serve as an invited guest lecturer for numerous law enforcement agencies and has been an instructor for the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service and prosecutors across the country.
Maurice has successfully run trials for murder (with and without a jury), drunk driving causing death, aggravated assault, home invasions, drive-by shootings, multi-kilogram drug trafficking, as well as countless trials for sexual assault and domestic violence. He also has experience with police undercover operations, wiretaps, and search warrants. As co-owner of the largest criminal defence firm in Central Alberta's history, Maurice has been the principal and mentor to many young and successful criminal defence lawyers.
