Larissa Just grew up in Red Deer, Alberta. She relocated to Kelowna, British Columbia in 2014 to begin her undergraduate degree, majoring in psychology. Working towards an honours degree, Larissa conducted her research thesis on the relationship between psychosomatic symptoms and self-reported incidents of sexual assault. In addition, Larissa volunteered with the Kelowna Halfway House Society where she worked with individuals serving life sentences transitioning out of incarceration. Larissa obtained her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology from the University of British Columbia (Okanagan) in 2018.
In 2020, Larissa began pursuing her law degree at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia. Between 2020 and 2023, Larissa worked closely with the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies advocating for prison reform and prisoner’s rights. In her final year of law school, Larissa worked alongside a Kamloops appellate lawyer conducting research focussing on Charter violations prevalent in remand facilities. Larissa also worked with the Thompson Rivers University Community Legal Clinic where she provided legal information and assisted on human rights, residential tenancy, family, and criminal law matters. Larissa was awarded the Dean’s Course Prize for achieving the highest grade in Criminal Process and was placed on the 2022/2023 Dean’s List for ranking in the top 10% of law students. Larissa obtained her Juris Doctor from Thompson Rivers University in 2023.
Larissa joined Advocate Law as a Summer Student in 2021 and is currently working as a Student-At-Law. She will complete her articles in June 2024. Larissa has worked alongside senior lawyers assisting with complex drug trafficking files, sentencing recommendations, and murder files. She has extensive knowledge arguing Charter violations in the areas of search and seizure, trial within a reasonable time, arrest, and detention.
Larissa’s practice is based in Red Deer and she will defend clients anywhere in Alberta. Larissa prides herself on providing clients with the legal services they require in a timely manner and treats clients with compassion during difficult situations.
